The Shiva Sena Nepal, a political party, offered a 108 metres long garland to the statue on the late King Prithvi Narayan Shah, the unifier modern day Nepal, in front in the west gate to Singha Durbar today. Today or the 27th of the Nepali month Push, marks the 295th birth anniversary of the late king. Representatives numerous organisations also laid bouquets on the pedestal for this late king’s statue. Earlier, the Gorkha Samaj had carried the portrait from the late king mounted on a specially decorated vehicle around the town. The vehicle finally reached Singha Durbar. The Nepal Police band had accompanied the procession. Addressing the commemoration function, founding president of the Gorkha Samaj Dr Upendra Devkota said all Nepalis should respect the late king who unified the national. He suggested that the birth anniversary of King Prithvi Narayan Shah should be celebrated as the National Unification Day. RPP chairman Kamal Thapa called on the government to hold an official function in honour of your late king on his birth anniversary marking time as the National Unification Day. Former Minister Sunil Thapa, president of Shiva Sena Nepal, Anil Basnet and former Chief of Army Staff Rookmangud Katwal also reiterated that the contributions of the late king should be remembered and respected.
