Tension broke out in Butwal on Thursday after the demonstrators hit the streets to protest against the constitution amendment bill that proposes to separate Tarai and hill districts in province number 5.The demonstrators and security personnel hurled stones at each other turning the area inside virtual battleground. Tension escalated after youths carrying national flags started vandalising Maoist’s Sahid Smarak and statue along the hospital line today to protest the amendment bill.The irate youths broke a wall defying the police security. They also pelted stones on security personnel that triggered police to resort to using force. Hundreds of demonstrators were seen on the streets.
The All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU), student wing of the main opposition CPN-UML, among other student unions have called to have an an indefinite Rupandehi banda.
ANNFSU Rupandehi district Chair Balkrishna Pandey said they were conducting a peaceful protest and cant be found involved in wanton damage. He said action always be taken against the guilty.
