CPN-UML leaders have said that the party will not obstruct the constitution amendment process if the agitating sides come up with valid reasons for amendment. Speaking in a programme organised to mark Dashain, Tihar, Eid and Chhath at UML Province-2 committee here on Thursday, senior UML leaders Jhala Nath Khanal, Madhav Kumar Nepal and General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel said in the same voice, “None of disgruntled sides have made it clear why the constitution should be amended. Even so, if they come up with genuine reasons for amendment, UML will definitely not obstruct the process.” Leader Nepal said that it would not be wise to term the constitution promulgated with well over 90 percent majority in Parliament as ‘incomplete’. Leader Khanal also pointed out the special features of the constitution saying, “It is fully democratic, patriotic, progressive constitution that is oriented towards the principle of socialism.” Hinting at Madhes-centric parties, leader Nepal further said, “Let’s discuss the contentious issues of the constitution and try to forge consensus on that will. But let’s not create trouble by raising unnecessary issues.” General Secretary, who received warm appreciation for beginning his speech in local Maithili language, testified that his political career began from Dhanusa district as well as was a true friend of Madhes and Madhesi people. He said he was committed to provide constitutional recognition to languages like Maithili and Bhojpuri. -
